Assigning an AvaTax Tax Code to a Product

Tax codes apply either on product types or on products. 

Assign an AvaTax System Tax Code to a Product Type

When you set a tax code on a product type then all products that belong to this product type will be taxed with this tax code.

1. Go to Setup > Billing > Products > Product Types
2. Select a Product Type to open the details screen
3. On the Product Type details screen, enter the applicable AvaTax System Tax Code in the Avalara Tax Code field
4. Tax Code defined on product type level is used for item for which Retrieve Tax Code from Product Type field is checked
5. Click Save.

Assign an AvaTax System Tax Code to a Product

1. Go to Billing > Products and select a product 
2. Click Edit
3. On the Product details screen, uncheck Retrieve from Product Type field
4. Enter the applicable AvaTax System Tax Code in the Avalara Tax Code field
5. Click Save.
