Adobe Extended-Term Subscription
This page contains information on the Adobe Extended Term; what it is, how it functions, and how you can benefit from it during your first order of an Adobe service from the Storefront portal.
The Adobe Extended-Term subscription feature offers new customers the ability to purchase, upfront, their first Adobe subscription with a custom end date (extended-term), ranging from 13 to 36 months (or up to 48 months for government and education customers) via Storefront. This option simplifies budgeting and purchasing by allowing new customers to select a specific yet extended end date that aligns with their financial year, while also protecting against potential price increases in the future.
Benefits & Limitations of an Extended-Term Subscription
In the following table, you can view a summary of the benefits and limitations the Adobe Extended-Term feature comes with.
Benefits | Limitations |

Ordering an Adobe Subscription with the Extended-Term
The extended-term feature is available from the Storefront for new/unsynced customer accounts and becomes visible as a toggle button option during the first step of the checkout process, but only for Adobe services that support it (not 3YC nor Stock Credit Pak).
The information icon, when clicked, provides users with details on the functionality of the Extended Term toggle button.
When the Storefront user activates the toggle button, a pop-up window appears and allows the entry of a valid end date for the Adobe service. (Remember here that commercial SKUs offer a date range of 13-36 months, while the GOV/EDU SKUs extend up to 48 months.)
After successfully saving the chosen end date, the checkout process can be completed and the service to be provisioned. The new Adobe subscription will include the selected end date reflecting the custom/extended term.
Billing an Adobe Extended-Term Subscription
The billing cycle of an extended-term subscription will always exceed the typical Adobe annual cycle. The additional months during the extended period will be invoiced and calculated on a prorated basis. For instance, a user orders an extended-term subscription that expires in 20 months. The billing mechanism will generate a debit invoice (upfront payment) for the whole period. The 20 months will be divided into smaller annual cycles, and the remaining period will be prorated accordingly.
Extended-term period | Invoice amount |
---|---|
12 months | annual amount |
+ | + |
8 months | prorated amount for 8 months |
= | = |
20 months | final amount |
Managing Extended-Term Subscriptions
As previously mentioned, extended-term subscriptions are exclusive to new customers whose accounts have not yet been synchronized with Adobe. Once synchronization occurs, the subscription's anniversary date becomes fixed. Subsequent add-ons purchased under this subscription will inherit the original extended term and its corresponding (extended) end date. Importantly, the billing for these add-ons (services) will adhere to the same principles as the base subscription, ensuring consistency in the customer's contractual terms.
In terms of quantity changes of the subscription’s add-ons or cancellations, an extended-term subscription adheres to the same principles that are analyzed in detail in the following Managing Adobe Subscriptions & Add-ons page.
Tenant Resellers & Backordering of Extended Term Subscriptions
After the root organization has run the Get Services Definition action to update the Adobe Service Manager (in each instance) and receive the Extended-Term feature, after the release 3.28.155, they can transfer this setting to the associated tenant organization through the Update Tenant Reseller action. A tenant Storefront user can then set a custom (extended) end date for a new Adobe subscription, and this action will be back-ordered to the root organization. The billing process for a backorder subscription is expected to adhere to the current flow.
Possible Error Messages
The following error messages may appear during the checkout process, and since they are self-explanatory, the Storefront user can amend the issue(s) to continue with the completion of the checkout process.
Case | Error Message |
---|---|
The user has entered an invalid term/date. | The selected end date is not valid. Please select an end date between 13-36 months for commercial products or 13-48 months for government/educational products. |
A customer has not been chosen. | Create a new customer or select an existing unsynchronized one. |
A customer has already been chosen but that customer account is existing and synchronized with Adobe. | Create a new customer or select an existing unsynchronized one. |
The order items/products are mixed regarding their market segment. (Put it simply, the cart should not contain commercial products along with educational/governmental.) The following error message will be displayed if mixed market segments have been found in the same cart. | Products from multiple market segments have been added to a single cart. Please note that customers can be eligible for only one market segment. |
The order includes an Adobe add-on (product), which is the actual service in Adobe, without the container product in our platform called “Adobe Services“. (Put is simply, the add-on requires the container product to be inside the Storefront for the checkout process to be completed.) | You have to include at least one Adobe service add-on to complete the purchase of "Adobe Services". |
A customer cannot request a 3YC and an Extended-Term subscription at the same time. Only one of them can be active. As a result, the following error message will be displayed.
| You cannot send a 3YC request for an extended-term subscription.

BSS Adobe Sync Options - Extended Term Date Field
Within the BSS Adobe account sync options, there exists a field labeled “Extended Term Date” that should remain untouched by any BSS user until the BSS implementation for this feature is officially launched. Hence, the BSS “Extended Term Date” field must remain unfilled by any individual under all circumstances while synchronizing an Adobe account.
