Upgrading a Basic Reseller to Tenant Reseller
For upgrading a Basic reseller to a Tenant reseller, you need to firstly create the tenant reseller and then copy in the tenant's BSS customers and their subscriptions. This guide explains the upgrade process from lite to tenant reseller in four easy steps. The major milestones for this transition are the following:
#1 Create the Tenant Reseller
This is the first step and for completing it you must follow the instructions explained in Creating a Tenant Reseller guide. After completing this step:
- The reseller remains as Basic reseller, meaning that they can continue to place orders using their distributor's BSS
- They can start configuring their BSS and get trained in the new capabilities. They will have fully access in their BSS for starting the rebranding of their Storefront, testing the ordering process etc. At this stage we suggest to train your tenant reseller by following the playbook described in Basic & Premium Partners Playbooks.
#2 Copy of Customers
Resellers' customers are copied down in BSS. Now the reseller is ready to define their pricing options. After completing this step:
- All reseller's sub customers have been copied in their BSS
- The reseller can define their customers pricing options: to relate them with a price list, define their billing day, their invoicing options etc.
- The reseller can define the contacts for each customer
During this phase the reseller continues to be a lite reseller meaning he can continue to place orders in your Storefront even for the accounts that have been copied in their BSS.
But you, as their distributor, you will not be able to create a new order or a new subscription for these accounts directly in your BSS since they will have been marked as "back ordering" records and will be partially locked for you.
For more details, check Copying Customers in Reseller's BSS.
#3 Copy of Subscriptions
This is the step, where all active subscriptions are copied to the reseller's BSS. The system uses the pricing options the reseller defined in a previous step, for knowing how to bill the subscriptions that will be copied from the distributor's BSS. After completing this step:
- The reseller has in their BSS all the information he needs for their existing customers
- He can make any billing amendments he wishes to the subscriptions in case he has a special case that does not follow the pricing rules defined in customer level.
Upon successful completion of this step, the system will automatically activate the backordering mechanism and the reseller will no longer be a lite reseller.
For more details, please check Copying Subscriptions & Assets in Reseller's BSS.
#4 Activation of the Back Ordering Mechanism
This is the step where the reseller's BSS goes live. The step is executed automatically when the subscriptions have been copied successfully. By completing this step:
- The reseller is no longer a lite reseller and all the management of their customers is done from their BSS.
- All reseller's sub customers and subscriptions are marked in distributor's BSS as "back ordering" records and are partially locked.
- The reseller is billed from the distributor based on the actions he performs in their BSS (check Back Ordering Mechanism for more details).
