Excerpt

In the following sections of this page, you can examine the method with which you can enable or disable the automatic renewal of subscriptions.

The automatic renewal of a subscription is an automatically processed billing action where the customer's subscription is set to be renewed automatically at the end of their subscription period – monthly, annually, or any other agreed-upon period of time – without the customer or a BSS user having to take action.

Managing Automatic Renewals for Subscriptions

The method for activating or deactivating the automatic renewal of a subscription has changed. Instead of editing a subscription in the BSS, where the user was able to enable or disable the Renew Automatically option of a subscription, now, this method is handled from a dynamic toggle button which is located under the Shortcuts menu of each subscription and appears depending on the status of the subscription.

Since the toggle (Deactivate auto-renew & Activate auto-renew) button changes the provisioning of the subscription (by communicating with the external provider), we have added it as an option under the Shortcuts menu of each subscription, for extra convenience to the BSS user.

  • When a subscription has active the Renew Automatically option, the BSS user sees the Deactivate auto-renew button under the Shortcuts menu of the subscription.

  • When a subscription has inactive the Renew Automatically option, the BSS user sees the Activate auto-renew button under the Shortcuts menu of the subscription.

Accordingly, when the BSS user edits a subscription, the existing Renew Automatically check box is now a locked and read-only field. That functionality applies whether the subscriptions are synced with an external provider or not.

Consequently, due to the aforementioned changes to the Shortcuts menu of the Subscriptions, the Renew button has been removed, since the renewal is handled from the (Deactivate auto-renew & Activate auto-renew) dynamic toggle button.

Updating a Subscription Can Reactivate the Auto-Renew Status if it was Previously Deactivated

Please keep in mind that when updating a subscription in any way, e.g., change its name or update its quantity, the “auto-renew” option gets activated and provisioned to the Microsoft Partner Center along with the update action of the subscription.

Subscription Statuses Dictating the Visibility of Activate/Deactivate Buttons

Managing Automatic Renewals for Bundles

The same functionality of the subscriptions, concerning the automatic renewals, is applied to bundles. When the BSS user updates the Auto-Renew option, then the provisioning action is forced on all the sub-subscriptions belonging to that bundle.

Please note that on each sub-subscription of the bundle, the buttons are not available, since the sub-subscriptions follow the rules of the main Bundle subscription.
