On this page, you will learn how to complete a full or partial upgrade of an active NCE subscription within the BSS portal to another existing NCE subscription, provided it is within the subscription upgrade path. This option is also available via Storefront.

Applicable Rules for the Upgrade

The following section of the upgrade rules of NCE subscriptions needs to be upheld. Specifically, the list of these rules is found inside the following link:

Upgrade to an Existing NCE Subscription in BSS

Upgrade Steps

BSS users can upgrade their NCE subscriptions via the BSS portal by selecting the dedicated Upgrade button, inside the subscription view.

By selecting the Upgrade button, all the available upgrade options appear in the Subscriptions Upgrade pop-up window, under the Upgrade To drop-down menu, as retrieved by the Get Services Definition process, and based on their eligibility.

If a subscription has no available upgrade path, the Upgrade To drop-down menu will be empty.

The Upgrade To drop-down list shows all the available upgrade options. After the user selects the desired option, they click on Upgrade.

To help them through the process, the BSS user has the following information about the current subscription available:

  1. Current Subscription: The name of the current subscription.

  2. Quantity: The number of licenses of the current subscription.

  3. Unit Price: The price per unit of the current subscription.

  4. Billing Plan: The current billing plan (whenever applicable).

The upgrade Quantity is set by default to match the current subscription quantity. However, the user can edit it to suit their needs best.

Altering the Quantity number of the subscription will determine if the user will proceed with a full or partial upgrade towards an existing NCE subscription. For more information on full and partial upgrades, you may visit the related articles:

To proceed with an upgrade to an existing subscription, the user selects Existing as the upgrade destination.

All the eligible existing subscriptions will appear in the dropdown list, as shown below:

Here, the user can see the available subscription information:

  • Subscription name

  • Term

  • Billing plan (if any)

  • End date

  • Unit price (unit price of the target subscription)

The list will only include the existing destination subscriptions that meet all the appropriate eligibility criteria. You may find the appropriate rules in our page https://interworkscloud.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ICPD/pages/1363869697/Upgrading+NCE+Subscriptions#Rules-for-Upgrading-to-an-Existing-NCE-Subscription .

When the user selects an existing subscription from the list, the Final Unit Price is calculated and displayed.

After double-checking everything, the BSS user may click Upgrade.

After clicking Upgrade, a new pop-up window appears where the user selects the specific date when the upgrade should take effect, and clicks Save.

Once the above procedure is complete, the product will be provisioned to the end user automatically.

Execution Flow During the Upgrade

After the upgrade is executed, the following actions will occur in BSS:

  • Subscription Status: For a partial upgrade, the source subscription remains Active. For a full upgrade, it changes to Cancelled.

  • Quantity: The licence quantity is reduced based on the upgrade details.

  • Total Amount: The Total Amount is adjusted according to the upgrade.

  • Unit Price: The Unit Price may change in the new destination, due to pricing factors (e.g., billing plans markup, pricelist rule changes).

  • Invoices: A credit pending invoice is issued for the source subscription, reflecting the downgraded quantity and remaining days. A debit invoice is issued for the target subscription, covering the upgraded quantity and billing cycle.

  • History: New records are logged for both the source and destination subscriptions.
