On this page, you will learn how to complete a full or partial upgrade of an active NCE subscription within the BSS portal to another existing NCE subscription, provided it is within the subscription upgrade path. This option is also available via Storefront.

Applicable Rules for the Upgrade


The following section of the upgrade rules of NCE subscriptions needs to be upheld. Specifically, the list of these rules is found inside the following link:

Upgrade to an Existing NCE Subscription in BSS


BSS users can upgrade their NCE subscriptions via the BSS portal by selecting the dedicated Upgrade button, inside the subscription view.

Upgrade Steps

To complete the upgrade, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the Upgrade button.

By selecting the Upgrade button, all the available upgrade options appear in the Subscriptions Upgrade pop-up window, under the Upgrade To drop-down menu, as retrieved by the Get Services Definition process, and based on their eligibility.

If a subscription has no available upgrade path, the Upgrade To drop-down menu will be empty.

  1. Select an Upgrade To subscription option from the drop-down list, and click Upgrade.

The BSS user has the following information available by default:

  1. Current Subscription: The name of the current subscription.

  2. Quantity: The number of licenses of the current subscription.

  3. Unit Price: The price per unit of the current subscription.

  4. Billing Plan: The current billing plan (whenever applicable).

When a product is selected, the BSS user can proceed to a full or partial upgrade towards an existing NCE subscription, by altering the Quantity number of the subscription they wish to upgrade to.

Please note that the Quantity is by default equal to the current subscription quantity. However, the user can edit it to suit their needs best.

4. Select Existing as the upgrade destination.

The Existing option is only available to products that meet the below criteria:

  1. The subscription status is active.

  2. and provision is completed and active.

  3. The product supports the option to Upgrade to Existing. These products will appear with the appropriate flag icon to indicate they support the Upgrade to Existing option.

  4. An upgrade path is available in BSS.

If all the above criteria are not met, the Existing radio button will appear as disabled.


5. Choose any of the available existing subscriptions from the dropdown list.

Here, the user can see the information below:

  • Subscription name

  • Term

  • Billing plan (if any)

  • End date

  • Unit price (unit price of the target subscription)

The list will only include the existing subscriptions that meet all the criteria below:

  1. The existing subscription status is active.

  2. The existing subscription provision is completed and active.

  3. The existing subscription belongs to the same account as the source subscription (the one to be upgraded).

  4. The Unit is equal to or greater than the source Unit period.

  5. The End Date is equal to or greater than the source subscription End Date.

  6. The existing subscription is not part of a promotion or trial.

When the user selects an existing subscription from the list, the Final Unit Price is populated.

  1. Click Upgrade.

  2. Select the date when the upgrade should take effect in the new pop-up window.

  3. Click Save.

After the above procedure is complete, the product will be provisioned to the end user automatically.

Upgrade Execution

After the upgrade is executed, the following actions will occur in BSS:

  • Subscription Status: For a partial upgrade, the source subscription remains Active. For a full upgrade, it changes to Cancelled.

  • Quantity: Reduced based on the upgrade details.

  • Total Amount: Adjusted according to the upgrade.

  • Unit Price: May change due to pricing factors (e.g., billing plans markup, pricelist rule changes).

  • Invoices: A credit pending invoice is issued for the source subscription, reflecting the downgraded quantity and remaining days. A debit invoice is issued for the target subscription, covering the upgraded quantity and billing cycle.

  • History: New records are logged for both the source and target subscriptions.
