On this page, you can find the analysis of how to fully or partially upgrade an existing and active NCE subscription (source subscription) to another existing and active NCE subscription (destination subscription) within the BSS. This option is also available via Storefront.

Applicable Rules for the Upgrade


The following section of the upgrade rules of NCE subscriptions needs to be upheld. Specifically, the list of these rules is found inside the following links:

Upgrade Steps

BSS users can upgrade their NCE subscriptions via the BSS portal by selecting the dedicated Upgrade button, inside the subscription view.

By selecting the Upgrade button, all the available upgrade options appear in the Subscriptions Upgrade pop-up window, under the Upgrade To drop-down menu, as retrieved by the Get Services Definition process, and based on their eligibility.

The Upgrade To drop-down list shows all the available upgrade options. If a subscription has no available upgrade path, the Upgrade To drop-down menu will be empty.

To help them through the process, the BSS user can also review information on the current subscription:

  1. Current Subscription: The name of the current subscription.

  2. Quantity: The number of licenses of the current subscription.

  3. Unit Price: The price per unit of the current subscription.

  4. Billing Plan: The current billing plan (whenever applicable).

After the user selects the desired option, they click on Upgrade.

The upgrade Quantity is set by default to match the current subscription quantity. However, the user can edit it to suit their needs best.

Tip

Altering the Quantity number of the subscription will determine if the user will proceed with a full or partial upgrade towards an existing NCE subscription.

To proceed with an upgrade to an existing subscription, the user selects Existing as the upgrade destination.

All the eligible existing subscriptions will appear in the dropdown list, as shown below:

Here, the user can see the available subscription information:

  • Subscription name

  • Term

  • Billing plan (if any)

  • End date

  • Unit price (unit price of the target subscription)

Note

The list will only include the existing destination subscriptions that meet all the appropriate eligibility criteria.

When The Final Unit Price is displayed when the user selects an existing subscription from the list, the Final Unit Price is calculated and displayed.

After double-checking everything, the BSS user may click Upgrade.

A new pop-up window will appear, allowing the user to select the specific date when the upgrade should take effect.

Then, finally, the user clicks Save.

Once the above procedure is complete, the product will be provisioned to the end user automatically.

Partial Upgrade to an Existing NCE Subscription within the BSS Portal

To upgrade or downgrade a selected number of licenses via the BSS, the user specifies the quantity on the respective field, before selecting Upgrade.

Execution Flow During the Upgrade


After the upgrade is executed, the following actions will occur in BSS:

  • Subscription Status: For a partial upgrade, the source subscription remains Active. For a full upgrade, it changes to Cancelled.

  • Quantity: The license quantity of the source subscription is reduced decreased based on the upgrade details.Total Amount: The Total Amount is adjusted according to the upgrade.

  • Unit Price: The Unit Price may change in the new destination, due to pricing factors (e.g., billing plans markup, pricelist rule changes).

  • Invoices: A credit pending invoice is issued for the source subscription, reflecting the downgraded decreased quantity and remaining days. A debit invoice is issued for the target destination subscription, covering the upgraded quantity and billing cycle.

  • History: New records are logged for both the source and destination subscriptions.
