Introduction
Initial Seeding is an option which helps end users in case of slow Internet connection, to back up large amounts of data or the entire machines to the cloud storage. With this service end users are able to save the first full backup locally and then have it sent to interworks.cloud for upload. After uploading the initial seeding backup, only the incremental backups to that full backup are uploaded to the cloud.
Costs details or more information about the process should be applied to the proper account manager.
Note
Initial Seeding is available for Windows and Linux machines and is not available for Macs.
Step 1 - Create initial seeding backup
- Run Backup Management Console.
Select the machine to back up and start creating a new backup plan.
Info
It is not possible to create initial seeding backup to the existing backup plan, a new backup plan should be created!
Select data to back up, backup destination and schedule.
Step in the Backup options screen.
Select Use initial seeding, turn it to Yes and click the DONE button.
Having the Initial seeding option enabled the destination for the back up plan should be selected. Click on INITIAL SEEDING
Select either Local folders or Network folder and browse the desired destination.
Hit the APPLY button and run the new backup plan.
Having this new backup plan executed, the backup agent will create a local backup to the selected destination.
Be patient for the agent to be finished, then the backup files will be ready for shipment.
Warning
The initial seeding backup plan should not be deleted. Without that backup plan it’s impossible to continue incremental backups to the seeded full backup.
Step 2 - Store the back up data
Acronis-based backup service supports any local or network hard drive to create initial seeding backup. The following hard drive types for initial seeding can be used to send the initial seeding backup to interworks.cloud :
- external hard disk drives with USB connection
- SATA hard drives
ATA, IDE, and SCSI drives are not accepted.
Drive requirements :
- The hard drive should have one volume
- Must be formatted in FAT32 or NTFS file system
- Make sure to ship a PSU if external power is required
Tip
The initial backup could be stored directly to the storage drive that will be sent to interworks.cloud or just copy the backup to this drive after the plan accomplish.
Step 3 - Package the drive
It is very important that the hard drive be packaged carefully. Careful packaging will protect the drive from any damage during shipment.
If possible, use the original packaging. Otherwise, packaging materials can be obtained at any shipping outlet or stationary store. Of course, all the necessary cables or adapters must be included to the package.
The following instructions will ensure the secure packaging of the drive:
- In case of an internal hard drive, pack in anti-static bags. Anti-static bags could be found at many electronic stores.
- Use bubble wrap or non-movable foam cushioning to protect the storage drive from impact damage during shipping.
- Sturdy cardboard box which is fits appropriately the sizes of the storage.
Step 4 - Shipping
Contact your account manager in order to gather details about the shipping.
Step 5 - How to proceed when upload is completed
When the initial seeding backup is uploaded an email notification will be sent. For now on, further incremental backups are created according to the schedule within the same backup plan.
