Applicable Rules for the Upgrade

The following two sections of the upgrade rules of NCE subscriptions need to be upheld. Specifically, the list of these rules is found inside the two following links:

Resellers can upgrade their subscription(s) via the Storefront by selecting the dedicated upgradebutton.
In the source subscription dashboard, select the I WANT TO… and then Upgrade the subscription.

After selecting the eligible product to upgrade to, the following pop-up window is displayed where you have two main options for the upgrade. You can select to (check the two tabs below for the analysis of each option):

Here, you can select to Upgrade to an Existing Subscription: In this case, the eligible product you have selected for the upgrade in the previous step can be matched to an existing subscription having the same product (with the one you have chosen to upgrade to), so that the existing source subscription along with its licenses can be upgraded to the existing destination subscription. Of course, the upgrade can be either full or partial and is analyzed below in detail.

Info

For the “Upgrade to a New Subscription” option, please go to the Upgrading to a New NCE Subscription via Storefront page.

Full Upgrade to an Existing Subscription via Storefront

After selecting the second (2) option of Existing subscription(s), the following drop-down option is displayed where you can choose from the available existing (destination) NCE subscriptions the one you wish to upgrade.

Destination NCE Subscriptions Appearance Rule

For a destination NCE subscription to appear inside the Existing subscription(s) list, it has to have passed its cancellation window.

Info

The upgraded subscription will keep the renewal date of the existing destination subscription.

When the checkout is complete, the upgraded product will be provisioned to the reseller automatically.

Partial Upgrade to an Existing Subscription via Storefront

To upgrade a selected number of licenses via the Storefront:

  1. Select the subscription you wish to partially upgrade to, on the first pop-up window.

  1. On the second pop-up window, select the Existing subscription(s) option.

  2. On the third pop-up window, specify the number of licenses before clicking on the Proceed to Checkout button.

  3. After clicking the Proceed to Checkout button, you are redirected to the Basket Items page where you can view the final price (highlighted in green) and proceed with purchasing the upgrade.

Update8.png

In the case of a partial upgrade, the existing destination NCE subscription increases its license quantity by the selected number (in this case 5) while the existing source NCE subscription reduces its licenses by the aforementioned amount (in this case 5). A debit invoice is then issued for the existing destination NCE subscription, with a new cycle, which begins on the date of the upgrade. Additionally, a credit invoice is issued for the remaining days of the cycle of the existing source NCE subscription with the previous product.

Note

Please note that in case there is a minimum or maximum limit of licenses either on the existing source subscription or the existing destination subscription there might be issues with the execution of the partial upgrade because the license limits might always be upheld.

Upgrading to an Existing NCE Subscription for Tenant Organizations

In the Tenant reseller’s Storefront, users can utilize the “Upgrade to an Existing NCE Subscriptionfeature to upgrade their NCE subscription(s). This functionality is available for both Simple and Country Tenant resellers. Specifically, the upgrades are created and executed in the Tenant’s organization, and then the Parent’s organization gets informed about the subscription upgrade, via backordering, immediately.

Eligible Subscriptions Are Filtered Based on their Microsoft Partner Center MPNID
The eligibility for upgrading to an existing NCE subscription is based on the Microsoft Partner Center (MPC) MPNID of the subscription, regardless of its MPNID in our platform. The available upgrade options are filtered based on the MPC MPNID and displayed to Tenant reseller organizations. If an end customer has, for example, two Tenant resellers (Tenant reseller A & Tenant reseller B) available for purchases and upgrades, and initiates an upgrade from the Tenant reseller B’s Storefront to an existing NCE subscription, only upgrade options from Tenant reseller B's existing NCE subscription will be shown, not from both resellers.

Backordering After the Upgrade

Backordering is available for tenant reseller organizations, and the billing for the upgraded NCE subscriptions that are also created in the root organization is based on the pricing rules we use for all NCE subscriptions.
